Make Safety Your Valentine | Car Seat Safety Checklist

Flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals and candy hearts make for a yummy and memorable Valentine’s Day, but why not make safety your true Valentine on February 14th?

#1 Cut the Fluff

Stay warm with light coats, thin layers and blankets. Avoid heavy winter coats and bulky items that will create slack in the car seat harness.

#2 Harness Height

Does a recent growth spurt have your little one straining to fit into that holiday sweater or favorite pair of pants? Even small changes in your child’s height can impact the fit of car seat harness straps.

#3 Wiggle Room

Make sure your little Valentine is traveling in a properly installed seat. According to research by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), 7 out of 10 child safety seats are not installed correctly.

Whether you are using the LATCH system or seat belt method for installation, the car seat should move less than one inch side-to-side or front-to-back when checked at the belt path.

#4 Check Expiration Date

How long have you had your car seat? Was it purchased new or a hand-me-down? Check the expiration date printed on the product details sticker from the manufacturer.

Diono Rainier Convertible+Boosters has an industry leading 12 year lifespan from date of purchase.

#5 Driving Conditions

Sun glare, icy roads or wet leaves. There are any number of distractions that can create dangerous driving conditions. Plan a few extra minutes to get everyone into the car and always check weather and traffic reports before hitting the road.
