It also serves as the kickoff to National Reading Month. Schools and libraries across the country have joined in, planning Dr. Seuss inspired events including Wacky Wednesday, Crazy Hair Day and dressing up to celebrate a favorite story.

Research has shown that children who are exposed to books from a young age and spend more time reading do better in school. Just 15 minutes a day can make all the difference in a child’s life. A small study published in Pediatrics in 2015 was the first to show the biological impact reading has on brain function. Researchers used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to show how reading “activates the parts of preschoolers’ brains that help with mental imagery and understanding narrative — both of which are key for the development of language and literacy.”

Diono supports the NEA’s 20th anniversary Read Across America Day. We encourage you to find the time to read aloud to your little one or sit together with older children while everyone enjoys their story of choice.

Being a parent is life’s most exciting journey and we’re proud to join you for the ride. Check out our reading literacy infographic for additional information and download a new word search for added fun.
