I've had this seat for over a year. My 7 year old is tall (49 inches), but doesn't weigh enough for just a booster/seatbelt to keep her safe in a crash (she's just barely 40 pounds). I wanted to find a seat where we could still keep her in a 5-point harness. We have owned eight different seats for our two kids and this one, by far, is my favorite. I believe Diono has created close to *the* most perfect seat on the market. Pros: 1) Literally the only seat you'd need to buy to last your son or daughter's entire childhood. Rear-faces for newborns, all the way up to 45 lbs. Forward-faces with 5-point harness up to 80 lbs (my 7 year old is 49 inches tall and is still wearing the 5-point harness - she cannot do this in any other seat, even seats that boast extended harnessing). Converts to a booster up to 120 lbs. 2) Has a ten-year life, compared to 4-6 years for most other seats 3) Durable and safe with an easily-adjustable headrest and side-impact protection. I feel like my kid is in a tank when she's sitting in this 4) Folds for travel 5) Airline approved (not all seats are!) 6) Narrow enough to fit three across the backseat of a sedan - which is a huge consideration if you don't have a minivan or a 3rd row in your vehicle but you have 2 or more kids. Cons: 1) It's pricey (shop around, prices vary widely) 2) It's HEAVY (but that goes along with its safety and durability, so it's a trade-off) 3) It's not the easiest to install. I don't like the LATCH clips; I prefer the style of LATCH that other companies like Britax use, where you can adjust from both sides. This one only has the adjuster on one side. I don't feel like I can get as tight a fit as I can with other seats. It is also difficult to install using the seatbelt. I have very small hands, but I have such a hard time sticking my hands back there to thread the seatbelt through. 4) The adjustable headrest is a little *too* easy to adjust. It tends to slide down on my daughter with normal use (this could be a defect in my particular seat, though). Not enough of a nuisance to dissuade you from buying, though. 5). To adjust the height of the shoulder straps, you have to uninstall the seat, partially take off the cover, un-hook the straps from behind the seat, un-thread them from their current setting, and re-thread them back through the slots at the desired height. This is a big inconvenience to me because a lot of other comparable seats on the market have figured out how to adjust the height with the turn of a knob, and you don't have to un-install the seat. Come on Diono, you can do this. If you figure this out, you will have created the perfect seat. 6). My daughter complains that there is not enough padding on the seat part of the seat. I agree that it is minimal padding. On long trips, she complains about how uncomfortable she is, and she is a great traveler who rarely complains. She cannot be the only one. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons, and I wholeheartedly recommend this incredibly safe and versatile seat. It is expensive, but worth its weight in gold.

I had to do my research on the best carseat for our family since I have a smaller car ('05 Toyota Corolla)--and realized that I may have an issue with giving the front passenger enough leg room for them to be somewhat comfortable. After thorough research for the best type of carseats for compact cars, it came down to the Diono Radian RXT and a competitor brand. While I wasn't keen on the price (paid over $550 for two for our two vehicles), I felt that it was the right fit for our family based on the exceptional reviews I had read about, espeically for the safety reasons. My gripe with this carseat is that once my son is in it (currently it is rear facing) and I pull up on the strap to tighten him in, the straps NEVER get tight enough. At first I thought that maybe it was the way I installed it, so I uninstalled it, checked the straps and reinstalled it. Again, I have to pull so hard on the strap that I can literally make my car rock back and forth! I thought maybe it was just the angle that it happened to be in while in my car, but when I tried the strap on the seat in my husband's car (Mercury Mariner), it was even worse! You can barely pull up on the strap--it's almost like something is getting caught and won't let you pull up on it, but there's nothing in the way, so I don't know why it's so hard. To "fix" this, I have to pull on the (exposed) straps in the back to get the slack tightened and then at the same time, pull up on the strap to get rid of the slack. I cringe everytime I put my son in it and wish that I had never bought them. Another reason why I bought them was because it was rated to 120 pounds and that it would have to be the only car seat I buy. Instead of thinking that this is the only car seat I'll have to buy, I'm debating if I should purchase new ones--and who has the money to do that all over again...To make matters worse, we moved at the same time and of course threw out the boxes, so returning them wasn't an option. Overall, I was very excited to get them, but disappointed once they were installed.

Comments about Radian®RXT:

I was crossing an intersection, when the passenger side of my car was hit by an SUV going about 40 mph.

My car spun around a couple times, and I looked back immediately after impact to find that my toddler was fine, and his seat was not moving at all during the spins. I immediately got out and removed him, and while the side of his seat received some marks from the impacting door, he was fine and in place.

The car (a 3 year old Mazda) was totaled due to the extensive passenger side damage.

I am so glad we made the decision to purchase this seat. I LOVE the fact that these tether rear facing.

We replaced it with a Rainier for mine & my husband's car as after a side crash the extra siding seemed nice. However, this is a great seat and I have recommended it to EVERYONE over the past 1.5 years.

Comments about Radian®RXT:

My 30 pound 40 inch 3 year old loves her new seat. "I want to go in mommy's car, my new seat is so comfortable!" is a direct quote. I love the harness only thing is that she can unbuckle the chest part herself so we have had to work on asking first. We also have the seat protector given as a gift which is great. I cannot wait to install the 2nd seat for my infant more reviews to come!

I wish I had purchased this seat much sooner!

Comments about Radian RXT:

We've had our Radian RXT for about a month now and my 2 year old loves it! Purple is her color. The memory foam is wonderful, especially on the straps. She falls asleep almost every time we go in the car! My husband was impressed with the steel frame. This is an extremely well built car seat and was worth every penny.

    Comments about Radian®RXT:

I bought this just before I went on vacation from Japan to the midwest. I will admit that backpacking it and ergoing my 15 month old through an international airport was not a fun time (mostly due to an old back injury), but compared to trying to lug a non-collapsible/non-backpackable carseat for the plane, it was great. I had it installed securely via LATCH before my father could get a proper hello hug from my son. My daughter is getting ready to move to a convertible seat and am anxious for her Pacifica to get here. :) I'm so thankful that my friend recommended this company to me.

      Comments about Radian®RXT:

We've had this seat for over a year now. It's been through a lot, to say the least. I did buy the angle adjuster. It's a must for midsize cars like mine, 2001 Accord. My son is still rear-facing at 2y4m old. He honestly cried in every single seat I bought before this one. He hated feeling confined. This seat gave him the option of being safe and comfortable. LATCH made the install super easy. I love the lower anchor locks. Seriously, they're super easy to use. Now I use the seatbelt to install and it's difficult in some bechiles of the seat belts are slicker than mine. But I just turn the car seat sideways and thread it through. Then I buckle it while holding the slack. Then I turn the seat right ways and start tightening. It sounds like a lot but it only takes about two minutes. My son weighs about 38lbs and is about 38in tall, mostly leg. He's still on the third harness slot since it's below his shoulders and the next one is still above. I do wish it came with thinner shoulder pads. The ones it came with are really thick and I couldnt get him buckled correctly with them on. If you decide to buy this seat, definitely purchase the angle adjuster with it. You'll get a lot of room back when it's installed. We also bought the waterproof seat cover. Definitely worth the ten dollars too. It's great for leaky diapers and spilled drinks and food. It saves the hassle of having to wash every time.

      Love Diono!!

      Comments about Radian RXT:

We have had one for our son for over two years now and is working great and just purchased a second one for baby #2. We have big kids so both were in the seats around 5&8 months; the infant carriers got to heavy to lug around. Recommend getting the block or putting a towel under the seat to raise it up when rearfacing. You can definitely have your child rearfacing longer in these seats (we went to 34inchs/just over 2 for our son, and could have easily gone longer). The covers are easy to wash. Accessory must haves: seat protectors, travel bag and extra strap. Difference in design from 2012-2014: the new strap covers; which we love, and would like to buy separately for our son's older model.

      Awesome carseat in every way!!!

      Comments about Radian RXT:

We absolutely love this carseat!!! My son is a chunky baby at 24 pounds at 11 months and he loves this carseat. It fits great in my Subaru Outback and it's low profile to the cars seat makes it so easy to get my son in and out of it. We loved this carseat so much we got 1 for my husband's truck and a spare for the grandparents. We have already recommended this carseat to 2 friends. I also like that this is the last carseat we will have to buy.

      Comments about Radian RXT:

I purchased this seat after a lot of research. Love that it has the steal frame (safey peace of mind), the narrow base, and the memory foam padding for my daughters comfort. Easy to install. I did have to purchase the diono angle adjuster. But my daughter seems to love being in it.
